Postdoctoral Fellows Supported by External Institutions

The Korea Institute at Harvard University considers affiliation requests from  Postdoctoral Fellows supported by external institutions (e.g. Korea Foundation, Fulbright) on an ad hoc basis.

If you are in the process of applying or have received a Postdoctoral Fellowship award and seek KI affiliation, please note the following requirements:

  • Faculty sponsorship by a current Harvard faculty member, preferably a core Korea faculty member (see: KI Executive Committee
  • Minimum compensation for all Postdoctoral Fellows as established by Harvard’s university-wide policy (see link). Externally-funded Postdoctoral Fellows should contact their funding agency to verify that compensation meets this threshold prior to seeking Korea Institute affiliation as a Postdoctoral Fellow.  (Note: Health coverage is the responsibility of the Postdoctoral Fellow.)
  • Participation in KI’s intellectual community (e.g. giving a Korea Colloquium talk) and submission of a report on the progress of research upon completion of the affiliation period.

Candidates interested in applying for this category of affiliation should first identify and reach out to a core Korea faculty member to inquire about sponsorship.

*Korea Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship: KI considers affiliation requests from Korea Foundation Postdoctoral Fellows. The fellowship is funded and selected by the Korea Foundation, and all application materials must be submitted directly to the Korea Foundation via its application portal: https://apply.kf.or.kr/main.nkf In the case that the KF application requires a copy of the letter sent to the proposed affiliated university and/or center, your email of interest to a potential KI faculty sponsor should suffice. Sending such an email of interest does not guarantee eventual KI affiliation, even after being selected by the Korea Foundation.
