Inter-University Center (IUC) for Korean Language Studies at Sungkyunkwan (SKKU)

The IUC for Korean Language Studies at SKKU offers advanced academic Korean language training.

The campus for the Center is located within the SKKU humanities and social sciences campus (Seoul), and is jointly operated by SKKU and the Committee on Korean Studies (affiliated under the Association for Asian Studies). North American, Latin American and European universities with significant Korean or East Asian Studies profiles participate as member universities of the IUC at SKKU. Through the Korea Institute, Harvard is a member university and thereby Harvard students will automatically be granted reduced tuition (member university tuition rate).

The mission of the Center is to provide the intensive high-level Korean language training (including instruction in Sino-Korean and hanmun) needed for excellent academic performance in Korean Studies, and to promote the learners’ ability in presenting research papers, accessing primary sources, and translating between Korean and their own languages.

Students must apply directly to the IUC at SKKU (contact information below); this program is administered by and housed at SKKU.

Students have benefited enormously from this program. RSEA students, in particular, may benefit their research as a step toward pursuing a PhD in the field of Korean Studies.

Harvard students planning to attend the IUC at SKKU during the summer term may also apply to the Korea Institute for a KI Graduate Summer Language Grant to supplement attendance costs not covered by the IUC.
