Hear from Anne Lheeem, class of '21 in Social Anthropology, the recipient of a Korea Institute Undergraduate Summer Research Grant to Seoul, Korea during the summer of 2019. Anne shares how her first foray into ethnographic fieldwork in South Korea changed her as a researcher, scholar, and person, and how it influenced her decision to pursue graduate studies in anthropology with a focus on Korean studies, as well as, her decision to also want to pursue medicine. She also discusses how she's been able to continue her fieldwork remotely under the COVID-19 pandemic, and shares how her two summers of fieldwork “abroad” in South Korea have made her more appreciative and proud of the Korean side of her identity as a second generation Korean-American.

Please watch Anne's 6 minute PechaKucha style presentation along with an introduction from Korea Institute Director, Prof. Sun Joo Kim.
