How are advances in technology, such as AI, machine learning and applications like ChatGPT changing democracy? How are governments gauging the changing risk of such technologies to our political systems, the ways citizens communicate and hold politicians accountable, and to data privacy? To what extent are these technologies shaping how parties form and strategic policy platforms of politicians?
South Korea is a thriving democracy leveraging its own leading technologies to digitize many aspects of governance, with substantial results. Advances in this area have also brought complex challenges. This discussion will feature Rajawali Foundation Institute for Asia fellow Young-sun Park, who served as a longtime member of South Korea's National Assembly, Minister of SMEs and Startups, and most recently a candidate for the mayor of Seoul, who will discuss the challenges of digital democracy. She will be joined by Will Hohyon Ryu, CEO of OXOpolitics, a social media platform designed to connect users with politicians. The company's platform provides users with information about daily political news, shares ideas on political issues, and equips users with political awareness tools and a platform to share opinions.
