Korea Institute 2010 Undergraduate and Graduate Student Awards for Study and Work in Korea

A listing of the 2010 Undergraduate and Graduate Student Awards for Study and Work in Korea. These Korea Institute student awards are generously supported by the Academy of Korean Studies, Korea, and by the Young-Chul Min Memorial Fund, Sunshik Min Endowment for the Advancement of Korean Literature, and the LG Yonam Endowment Fund at the Korea Institute, Harvard University.

OIP International Photo Contest- Winning Photographs from Korea

On Thursday, November 19th in Fisher Family Commons in the CGIS Kanfel Building, the winners of the annual OIP Photo Contest were chosen.  Winning photographs will remain on exhibit there until December 17th. Do check out these amazing photographs from around the world!

Sijo Festival, headed by professor David McCann, at the Sejong Cultural Society (April 9th-30th, 2010)

The Sejong Cultural Society (Sejong Society), whose mission is to bridge Korean, American, and Korean- American cultures in the multicultural context of U.S. society, announces the fifth year of its writing competition, and the third year in which that competition has encompassed a special form of Korean poetry known as sijo (pronounced “SHEE-joe”).

"CAMBRIDGE - The class on writing Asian poetry that Professor David McCann teaches at Harvard includes units on Chinese quatrains, Korean sijo, and Japanese haiku, the last of which is so well-known that McCann’s students had haiku days in middle school.

"An American professor is promoting Korean literature in the U.S. David McCann, a professor of Korean literature and the director of the Korea Institute at Harvard University, is teaching his students how to write sijo, a traditional three-line Korean poetic form, reciting them in local festivals, and holding sijo competitions for middle and high school pupils.
