Congratulations to Our Two New Fulbright Fellowship Awardees!
A very big Congratulations to our two students, Mr. John Song Lee and Ms. Chelsea Carlson, who have both been awarded the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Awards!
Mr. John Lee is a G3, PhD candidate in EALC Department at Harvard. He will be using the Fulbright fellowship to continue research on his Ph.D. dissertation, entitled "Protect the Pines, Punish the People: Forest Conservation and its Consequences in Choson Korea, 1392-1895."In the fall semester '13, he will be studying with Chun Young-woo, an expert on pre-modern Korean forestry at Kookmin University in Seoul. In the spring semester '14, John will be conducting archival research at the Kyujanggak library at Seoul National University. And throughout the AY13-14year, John will be making field trips to local archives and former protected forest sites throughout South Korea.
Ms. Chelsea Carlson, '13 is a join concentrator in East Asian Sudies and the Studies of Women, Gender & Sexuality. Chelsea will be affiliated with Ewha Womans University, and will be researching women in South Korean politics. She is particularly interested in women in the National Assembly, and what kinds of assets women have as political candidates on the national level. What do women offer to voters, or to party officials in the cases where they are appointed, that helps them win those offices? Chelsea will be on the Fulbright Student Award during AY13-14.
