Korea Institute Scholarships for the Harvard Summer School-Korea Program

Korea Institute Scholarships for the Harvard Summer School-Korea Program
Date of Deadline: January 25, 2024 via an email application

For AY23-24, all programs and opportunities in Korea are subject to change and/or cancellation. All support related to travel is contingent upon Harvard University guidelines and safety protocols before, during and after travel. Please see the following sites for the most up-to-date guidance: Harvard Travel Guidance and Harvard GSS COVID-19 travel advice.

The Korea Institute offers limited scholarships to undergraduate students who need additional financial assistance to attend the Harvard Summer School-Korea Program. Students on financial aid are given priority. Awards are made in consultation with the Migone Center for Career Success. You do NOT apply online via CARAT, nor fill anything out on CARAT and there is no 'official' form.

To apply:

Please email a budget sheet (what dollar amount you will need and the costs that make this up and provide an exact dollar amount, ) along with a written statement of your financial need (about a few paragraphs/1 page) to cglover@fas.harvard.edu. The budget sheet should include program cost, sources of income and amounts, along with an itemized budget (costs of program). Please be very clear as to the final dollar amount you are requesting from the KI. The statement should describe why you/your family need this scholarship for you to attend this program.  Please also denote if you are a US citizen, International student or a U.S. Permanent Resident. The statement is very important, as you will need to differentiate yourself/your needs from the other student applicants applying for the same scholarship.
*Please also mention if you will ask to be considered for the Mignone Center for Career Success Summer Funding for HSS. This will be asked on the HSS program application. And if not, why not. This year, MCS will ask students to indicate their interest in being considered for MCS funding directly on the online HSS program application due Jan 25. You will not need a separate application on CARAT.  You may apply and (possibly receive) funding from both the Korea Institute and the Mignone Center for Career Success (MCS) for HSS. Please make sure on your KI scholarship application to note if you will ask to be considered for MCS funding for HSS.

The 2024 HSS-Korea budget is now attached below. These items should be emailed to: Catherine Glover cglover@fas.harvard.edu by the deadline for the Harvard Summer School-Korea Program. This is the very same deadline as the online Harvard Summer School Abroad Program Application deadline. You must inform the Institute if you receive any other award for this proposal after you submit this application. These scholarships are only available to Harvard undergraduates.

Harvard College Summer Funding Policy 2024

https://oue.fas.harvard.edu/summer-2023-funding-policy

Harvard College prioritizes the wide distribution of Summer funding to ensure that as many undergraduate students as possible can have a meaningful summer experience. For funded Summer 2024 experiences, students may only apply Harvard University funding to one Summer experience, regardless of duration of time (ex. only four weeks or a part-time effort). *Co-funding between multiple sources of funding is permitted only if the funding jointly supports the same Summer experience.

Exceptions to the Summer Funding Policy are uncommon and will be reviewed on an individual basis; students should make exception requests to their Resident Dean, who will forward on to the Office of Undergraduate Education. All exceptions will be approved by the Office of Undergraduate Education.

Failure to adhere to the Harvard College Summer funding policy may result in a student being referred to the Administrative Board or Honor Council.

* The only recognized deviation from the Summer Funding Policy applies to students conducting senior thesis research. Students in this specific situation may apply Harvard University funding to two different opportunities, given that one source of funding supports thesis research and that the two opportunities in question do not overlap in time. Thesis researchers in this case may still apply to multiple sources of research funding to enable potential co-funding opportunities.
